I’m starting a new series of posts intending to highlight some crucial topics in the world of lookism, called Secrets to Good Looks. This first edition is focused on the mandible, the largest and lowest bone in the human face. Hope you enjoy.
When you take a look at the mandible (the lower jaw), it pretty much makes up the lower part of your face.
It goes right up to the ramus and it extends pretty deep into the face as well.
All good looking people have well-developed lower jaws (read: mandibles) /chins. The height of the jaw-bone isn’t even in the high seat either, it’s about how projected the jaw-bone is.
A weak jaw can get you mistaken for a kid or friend zoned by attractive females. If you have a weak jaw, see a maxillofacial surgeon or consider an implant.
Each jaw type has a specific tendency towards vertical or horizontal growth patterns (a long and narrow face type as opposed to a wide one). Attractive people have more horizontal AND forward growth. Unattractive people usually suffer from excess vertical growth of the maxilla (upper jaw) and the mandible (lower jaw), and their faces have no jawline. We’ll discuss the maxilla in more detail later (not this post).
The angle of the mandible (gonial angle) is located at the posterior border at the junction of the lower border of the ramus of the mandible. Those with suboptimal jaws have very obtuse gonial angles. This is detrimental to since it masks jawline definition. An under 130 degrees ramus is an anatomical ideal and one of the most beautiful features a human can have. A good gonial angle will provide a photogenic appearance from front view.
Note that the unattractive guy has the long face syndrome. A dental textbook defines it as: “Dolicofacial, there is excess of lower facial height usually associated with lower occlusal and mandibular plane angles.” This is often associated “with vertical maxillary excess and mandibular hypoplasia.” The gonial angle is very obtuse. The chin is weak. The jawline is non-existent. The face looks fragile with recessed jaws, .
THE JAWLINE LOOK
A forward grown lower jaw provides a more photogenic appearance from front view because it helps create the attractive jawline looks commonly seen in good looking models and celebs.
I think they all have well-developed lower jaws, while some men can look okay without visible jawline, the physical attractiveness of models is most always accompanied by an impressive horizontal lower jaw, which creates the jawline effect.
Prominent chin has always been a masculine feature that attracts women and you can’t deny that it adds more masculinity to a man’s appearance.
Chin ideally should be square and broad in a male, a round chin is acceptable however not the most photogenic. A pointed chin is feminine and attractive in a female. Males can get away with a pointed chin if they have other masculine features. A recessed chin is a very unattractive feature for both males and females. It is when the chin sinks in into the neck, or extremely tiny. It requires maxillofacial surgery to remedy the chin.
REMEDY FOR UNATTRACTIVE LOWER JAW
Let’s say you, not unlike me, didn’t have the right genes and environment to get the attractive mandible. Instead, your mandible grew wrong. Your chin is now recessed and your jawline is non-existent.
But now you’re reading this post and suddenly you realize there must be a way to remedy this. You’re right. You have to solve this problem or else to stay not attractive to the opposite sex.
What do you do?
Here are a few legit things:
- Mandible implants.
If your entire jaw is bad you need to address the problem directly by jaw surgery. Jaw implants usually camouflages the jaw problem and will often lead to suboptimal aesthetical results.
- Double jaw surgery and genioplasty. These things often go hand in hand. Double jaw surgery is to harmonize the maxilla and the mandible. Genioplasty is to augment the chin. Often corrective jaw surgery is performed on one jaw at a time. But when the upper and lower jaws are both operated on simultaneously, it is called “double jaw surgery”, two jaw surgery, or bi-maxillary osteotomy. Double jaw surgery may also involve a maxillomandibular advancement – moving the upper jaw (maxilla) and the lower jaw (mandible) forward. By itself, it will often not have a dramatic impact. Most people do look better after. However, it may be a necessary first step, as jaw surgery is the only thing that can provide anterior projection of the jaws. For example, a lot of implant results look subpar because typically the people who think they need implants actually have recession of one or both jaws.
CONCLUSION
Well-developed mandible allows you to be a very attractive person to the opposite sex, and make your life more meaningful. The halo effect is especially noticeable if you have a prominent jawline.
Note: the more attractive your jaw looks, the more people will like and care for you. As much as you want to think that looks don’t matter because it feels good to think it, keep in mind that most people will see your face all the time, and unconsciously treat you based on your features and behaviors. Not every person in your life is shallow, but most relationships are decided by your looks.
Most attractive people have well-developed jaws. How many times have you heard a girl fawn over a guy “That jawline is so sharp”? Or “He looks so masculine”?
By getting a good lower jaw, you avoid looking weak. The man can’t bully you, because he doesn’t consider you an easy target. Your love life can’t get worse because the girls don’t think you look cool, because they like your chin and jawline.
So, if you want to improve your face, think about your jaw… and don’t ignore it.
